Smithy Bridge Primary School

In July our brass band, who are British champions in their category, and our choir were invited to play and sing at the Symphony Hall in Birmingham in the National Festival of Youth Music. As a result of these performances our band were given an outstanding performance award on the day and our choir asked to perform at the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall in November.
The children have been rehearsing very hard under our conductor, James Lewis, for this performance. The choir will perform twice during the concert, once on their own and then later a joint performance with another choir from Doncaster.
We invited the Mayor and Mayoress into school to listen to the choir recently, to show the children how proud of their achievement we are and because we know that his chosen charities this year are ones that involve children and young people playing music.
For our day in London we will set off at 5.00am and not get back until the very early hours of the next day. We are all very excited and know that this will be a very memorable day for children, staff and parents.
