Rochdale honours Dorothy Greaves

Dorothy Greaves, a lady well known throughout the Rochdale borough has been presented with a certificate of appreciation for the work conducted in the region.
A reception was held at Rochdale Town Hall in honour of Dorothy Greaves and her service to the community since 1976.
The 1997 Woman of the Year was presented with a certificate of appreciation for her work in the borough. As well as the certificate Mrs Greaves was presented with a “magnificent bouquet of flowers”, and a crystal vase with the inscription:
“Presented to Dorothy Greaves in appreciation of services to the Borough of Rochdale, 27 July 2009.”
Mrs Greaves said: “I was very honoured and quite astonished. It was wonderful to be presented with a certificate and beautiful piece of glassware.
“It took my breath away. “
Mrs Greaves, born in Bebington, moved to Rochdale on the 1 July, 1975, and has since been heavily involved in community projects.
The member of Friends of Rochdale Town Hall Committee has been part of various civil and cultural movements including: the original Community Arts Committee, Member of Friends of Rochdale Art Gallery, member of the original Culture Committee.
The Blue Badge tour guide for Rochdale, and the nine other towns in the Greater Manchester area, says she loves the Borough of Rochdale and commented on her active participation in the borough’s affairs:
“If you’re interested in something you do something about it”.
As well as her work with Rochdale Pioneers’ Museum, the Treasurer, Secretary and Chairman of the Civic Society has organised the annual Heritage Weekends in Rochdale since their induction in 1990.
Dorothy Greaves, also a member of the Rochdale Music Society has had various broadcasts on Radio 3 and has been mentioned numerous times on Terry Wogan’s show. Mrs Greaves has appeared on television on North West Tonight, and Flog It! and is soon to appear in a programme about climate change with The Co-operative Group, in conjunction with the British Broadcasting Corporation. The programme is due to be aired in September 2009.
