Ladies go walking at midnight

Date published: 27 July 2009

It was another fantastic night for over 180 ladies who took to the moon-lit streets of Middleton, Heywood and Rochdale for this year’s Midnight Walk in support of Springhill Hospice.

Kicking off from Middleton Arena on Saturday night, the ladies-only walk is set to raise thousands of pounds for the hospice.

Determined walkers trekked the full 13.1-miles with others completing the 6-mile route finishing up at Heywood Civic Centre.

The ladies at the strike of 12 enjoyed the walk in a soft summer breeze – the slight drizzle didn’t seem to bother them as they made their way around the route.

Pledges of over £17,500 made on the night will help to raise vital funds for terminally ill people living with life-limiting illnesses across the Borough – a huge boost for the hospice which needs around £6,500 per day to keep its doors open.

This year’s sponsors for the Midnight Walk included Jonathan Swire Estate Agents and the event is being supported by Link4Life, UKFTA and Middleton Round Table.

Fundraising Manager, Ian Jenkins said: “It was an amazing night which really bonded our local community together for a great cause. It was great to see ladies of all ages uniting to raise money for such a pivotal charity in our area – I would like to thank everyone for getting involved and reaching out a helping hand.”

Organisers are urging everyone with sponsorship money to return it as soon as possible in order to get a more accurate fundraising figure.
