Date published: 15 May 2009

PSCO Dominique Grimes will be holding a self-defence class for a group of over 50s as part of Rochdale Council’s Recycled Teenager Festival.

The event is designed to give those over 50 the chance to get active and involved in their community.

The festival is part of a series of special events and activities designed to capture those members of the community.

PCSO Grimes, said: “My session will include a basic warm up, followed by some simple self defence moves.

“All of it will be followed by crime prevention advice so that everyone will know how to stay safe in all aspects of their life.

“Sessions like these are great as they are also a way for officers to get out into the community and get to know the people we are protecting.

“As a former personal trainer I think that learning simple steps like this can prove vital for everyone as it’s these steps that could make a difference to your health and well being.”

Janet Watson, Middleton Township Manager for Rochdale Council, said: “We are really pleased that the police are going to be carrying out this session. Not only will it provide our older people with some vital personal safety tips it is bound to get them active.”

The session takes place at the Middleton Arena at 10am on Tuesday (19 May).
