Learn about fostering during special fortnight

Date published: 13 May 2009

Rochdale Council's fostering team are hosting information days across the borough for anyone that is interested in taking care of children.

As part of Foster Care Fortnight, the team will be at various venues providing residents with information on fostering. Local foster carers will also be on hand at the sessions to share their experiences of fostering.

On Friday 15 May the foster team will be available in Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre, outside Morellis café, to answer any questions and provide information to shoppers.

The following week the team is in Middleton Shopping Centre, Tesco’s on Tuesday 19 May, the Co-operative store, Littleborough on Thursday 20 May, then finishing the week in Heywood on Friday 21 May, at the Lidl store.

All information days will run from 10am until 5pm.

Catherine Lockett, Fostering Team Manager at Rochdale Council hopes people will come along to the information stalls and find out about fostering.

“There is always a need for foster carers and with the national campaign underway, we are asking residents to consider fostering and get in touch," she said. "Some people may have considered fostering but wanted to speak to someone who is a foster carer about their experiences. These information days will provide that opportunity, and help raise awareness of fostering and our plight to get more people fostering in the borough.”

In the last Ofsted inspection, the team were awarded ‘outstanding’ in all areas and described as providing an excellent level of care to looked after children, as well as providing a high level of support to carers.
