Hot under the collar charity walkers on thin ice

Date published: 13 May 2009

As part of their 20th anniversary year, Springhill Hospice is hosting the shortest sponsored walk in the world.

A brief stroll across two 20’ paths may sound simple, but there's a catch - one path will be made up of hot wood embers burning at a mere 1236 degrees fahrenheit and the other path will be made from shards of broken glass.

Brave hikers are invited to attend the sponsored walk at The Soccer Village on Wildhouse Lane in Milnrow on Friday 19 June, commencing at 9.30pm.

The Hospice have contracted firewalking experts to provide the technical knowledge and know-how. Participants undergo a comprehensive and private training seminar for two and a half hours prior to the walk, which increases confidence and self-esteem, breaks through limiting beliefs and conditioning, transforms fears and doubts into positive actions - and contains a lot of laughter!

The training, which commences at 7:30pm on the night, is based around proven motivational and psychological methods, the effects of which have long-lasting benefits, with increased awareness of how to achieve goals, an enhanced view of the potential to succeed, a general ability to recognise when fear is preventing a move forward in life and what to do to change it.

The Hospice is asking each participant to raise just a minimum of £100 sponsorship for what is a truly remarkable experience.

Anybody wishing to take part in this unique event – either as an individual or as part of a team – should contact the Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office on 01706 649920 or by email at fundraising@springhillhospice.nhs.uk.
