Mobile phone stolen at knifepoint

Date published: 26 March 2009

A teenage boy was mugged at knifepoint and had his mobile phone stolen during a robbery in Middleton.

The 16-year old victim was talking to his girlfriend on the phone while he was stood at a bus stop on Oldham Road.

Three offenders came from behind the bus stop and one of them demanded that the boy hand his mobile over. At first the victim refused but the man then pulled out a kitchen knife, forcing the boy to give up his phone.

The offenders are described as being white men in dark clothing.

Shazia Maqsood, investigative assistant said: "The offenders showed they were willing to frighten their victim, who felt he had no choice.

"As this happened at a bus stop we are confident that there are witnesses who saw what happened, and may be able to help us trace the offenders' next movements."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8632, or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
