Dumped waste is 'pig ignorant'
Date published: 16 March 2009
A walker has expressed fury after discovering a heap of dumped waste across the hills near Syke Pond.
Jerry Lloyd, from Syke, was crossing Brown House wham, close to Syke Methodist Church yesterday (Sunday 15 March) when he found dumped carpets and domestic materials across the once clean land.
The rubbish, according to Jerry, is yet to be removed from the site and has caused upset among local people who like the green environment.
Mr Lloyd said: “This demonstrates pig ignorance.
“It would take more effort to load all this rubbish into a van and cart it up here than it would to just go to the tip. I don’t understand the mentality of these people.
He added: “It’s a beautiful area and the people round here like to enjoy their view and to go out walking. But then you get these idiots ruining it for everyone”.
Healey Ward Councillor Tom Bailey said: "This is not a pretty sight.
"I know this area, it has access from both Whitworth and from Syke. I have contacted the head of environmental services and asked him to investigate, and report back to me.
"This again is thoughtless people just dumping waste to get out of paying collection costs".
