More jobs go as Principles shuts shop
Date published: 13 March 2009
Fourteen more people in Rochdale have lost their jobs, as Principles becomes the latest victim of the recession.
The popular high street store, which had a branch in the Rochdale Exchange centre, fell into administration last week.
The Rochdale store was one of 66 nationwide which has closed its doors for good.
All 14 Rochdale staff were told the news on Friday evening, just hours before the store closed down.
The Rochdale branch opened up in 1985.
Debbie O’Brien, Town Centre Manager said: “It’s a great shame that Principles has closed down in Rochdale town centre. Whilst this is bad news for Rochdale, it is again the misfortune of a National retailer that has caused this town, along with many others, to lose out.
“Now more than ever local retailers need the support of the residents of Rochdale and I urge everyone to shop local to help us through this recession.”
