Coronation Street star Vicky Binns dropped in at an International Women’s Day event in Langley this week.

Visitors at the event held at Langley Children’s Centre on Windmere Road enjoyed presentations in joinery and plumbing by building firm Women at Work, health promotion advice and blood pressure checks, arts and crafts, relaxation classes and hair braiding.

The event was organised by Bowlee Park Housing Association in partnership with Jackson Lloyd building maintenance and attended by women from across Rochdale.

Assisted by funding from the Voluntary and Community Sector Partnership Cohesion Fund, employment and training opportunities were promoted and information on a wide range of subjects affecting women was available.

Vicky, who plays Molly Dobbs in the long running soap, dropped in to add her support to the event and chat with the women attending.

Sharon Thomas, community initiatives team leader for Bowlee Park Housing said the day was a huge success and helped empower people to realise their potential.

She said: “IWD is a global event aimed at inspiring women of all ages, religious and ethnic backgrounds to achieve their full potential and that was reflected in our event.

“It was fantastic that Vicky could spare the time to pop in and the women at the event took full advantage of the services and advice on offer.

“It was great to see women in the area coming together to discuss issues important to them and gain access to information and services that will improve their lives.”
