Old cotton mill could be converted into flats
Date published: 13 March 2009
An old cotton mill could be transformed into apartments, if a decision is passed through Rochdale Borough Council.
The possible refurbishment of Spotland Bridge New Mill, Mellor Street, is to be discussed at a Rochdale Township planning sub committee on Tuesday (17 March), and could lead to 84 apartments and offices.
The mill, currently listed as a grade 2 building, is a traditional northern cotton mill, dating back to the early 1800s.
Another mill on the site, East Mill, was built a little later and is deemed a demonstration of a change in mill design in the early 20th century.
Mill owners Bizspace Ltd are keen to add a new storey to the building and completely revamp the whole building.
Planners are to request permission at Tuesday’s meeting.
