Hero lorry driver rescues woman from sinking car
Date published: 12 March 2009
A hero lorry driver from Rochdale rescued a woman from a sinking car.
Craig Wells, 45, was making a delivery in Wrexham when he noticed a car sinking in a pond by the side of the road.
The car had skidded on ice in the road and overturned before stopping in the pond.
Mr Wells stopped his lorry to check if there was anyone still in the car and his calls were met by those of a woman shouting frantically for help.
The trucker waded into the water and found the woman trapped in the car as it filled with water. Mr Wells was able to free the woman and passers-by helped her from the icy water before paramedics arrived.
She escaped the incident with minor injuries.
