Ambitious climbers are aiming high

Date published: 11 March 2009

A team of ambitious mountain climbers are taking on the three peaks challenge to raise money for charity in May.

Four climbers, Nigel, Debs, Helen and Sarah, from Rochdale, take on the challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon – all in under 24 hours, to raise money for the Youth Cancer Trust (UK) Limited.

Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England, is 978 metres tall; Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales, is 1085 metres tall; and finally, Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in Scotland, and in the UK overall, is 1344 meters tall.

It takes approximately five hours to climb Ben Nevis, five hours to climb Scafell Pike, and four hours to climb Snowdon, plus a total of ten hours driving between peaks.

Nigel Bradley is one of the four people currently in the team to attempt the 3 Peaks Challenge.

He hopes to raise £2,000.00 via sponsorships with friends and family and has currently obtained £590.00.

There are two places left on his team, so if you’re interested in attempting this challenge with him, please get in contact as soon as possible.

The charity they are raising money for is the Youth Cancer Trust (UK) Limited. This charity provides free recreational holidays for people between 14 and 30 years old with cancer or other malignant diseases.
