Date published: 11 March 2009

A masked thief who frightened a motorist into handing over her car keys is being hunted by police.

A 24-year-old woman had parked up to go to the shop on Wood Street, Middleton, at 7.30pm on Saturday night, when a man in a balaclava ran at her and demanded her car.

Frightened, she handed over her keys, and the man sped off into Wood Street, Bowness Road and Lakeland Court before the victim lost sight of it.

The car, a green Citroen C4, registration plate BT05 OSW is yet to be found, and police are appealing for any information which will lead them to it.

The offender is described as being a white man, 6ft tall with a Mancunian accent.

Anyone with any information should call the Robbery Unit on 0161 856 8632 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
