Fire crews thank generous car wash donators

Date published: 10 March 2009

Fire fighters who spent the weekend buffing up your bodywork in a charity car wash have collected over £2000 from generous donators.

Hundreds of cars pulled into Rochdale, Littleborough and Heywood fire stations to have their cars washed by strapping young men, who welcomed donations for The Fire Fighters Charity.

Watch Commander Angus Robinson, from Rochdale Fire Station, told Rochdale Online of their massive success, as Rochdale pulled in £457, Littleborough £458, and Heywood managed to raise £1579 at the car wash even on Saturday.

A record amount totalling almost £20,000 was raised within Greater Manchester for the Fire Fighters Charity which supports firefighters and their families in times of need throughout the UK.

The event saw staff from all departments within the service pull together throughout the day with many giving up the weekend to make the event a success.

The Fire Fighters Charity has three dedicated centres in the UK providing physiotherapy services, rehabilitation and recuperation for both serving and retired Fire and Rescue personnel.

The money raised this weekend will provide support to ensure firefighters continue to access these centres.

Deputy County Fire Officer Kieran Nolan said “The continued support that the Charity receives from members of the public is extremely valued by all within our Service. I would like to extend sincere thanks on behalf of the Fire Fighters Charity to both the public of Greater Manchester and our staff for their outstanding efforts.”
