HSE investigate pensioner's fall death
Date published: 06 March 2009
The Health and Safety Executive are to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman in her 90s, who fell from a hoist while in the care of Rochdale Council.
The woman died in hospital a few days after she fell from the hoist, which was used to get her out of bed.
Three members of staff were suspended following the incident but the Council has confirmed that this is standard procedure for an incident of this nature and that the employees are now back at work.
Jim Wilson, Interim Executive Director of Adult Care Services at Rochdale Council said: “An elderly lady in the care of Rochdale Borough Council tragically died following a fall from a hoist.
"The council have offered support to the family during this very traumatic time.
"A full investigation is underway and it would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.”
