Langley ladies are being urged to celebrate International Women’s Day by enjoying an event dedicated to womanhood next week.

The IWD event next Tuesday (10 March) at Langley Children’s Centre will include presentations in joinery and plumbing by Women at Work, health promotion such as blood pressure checks, arts and crafts, relaxation classes and hair braiding.

Visitors will also be able to access employment and training opportunities and information on a wide range of subjects affecting women.

Coronation Street star Vicky Binns, who plays Molly Dobbs in the long running soap will be dropping by to add her support to the event and have a chat with the women attending.

Sharon Thomas, community initiatives team leader for Bowlee Park Housing said the day will celebrate womanhood and empower people to realise their promise.

She said: “IWD is a global event aimed at inspiring women of all ages, religious and ethnic backgrounds to achieve their full potential.

“The official day is Sunday but obviously people are not as easily available at the weekend so we chose the nearest day we could.

“It’s a great chance for women in the area to get together and discuss issues important to them, meet new people and have a general chat in addition to gaining access to information and services.”

The day will start next Tuesday (10 March) at 11am and run until 3pm at Langley Children’s Centre on Windmere Road.
