Gang sparks bloody street brawl

Police are hunting a gang of men who sparked a brutal street fight at the weekend.

A weapon, believed to be a machete, was used in the bloody brawl which took place in the Belfield Road area on Saturday (28 February).

Two men were rushed to hospital with puncture wounds and deep cuts to their arms and thighs.

Officers are hunting ten Asian men who started the fight at about 9pm at the junction of Entwistle Road and Bellfield Lane, later spilling into Hamer Lane.

A 24-year-old man received two minor puncture wounds to his abdomen.

A 23-year-old man was attacked with a weapon, possibly a machete, and received deep cuts to his hand and thigh and bruising to his body.

Detective Constable Heidi Edge, from Rochdale CID, said: "This was a nasty assault that appears to be completely without motive.

"I would appeal to anyone who has any information whatsoever to call me.

"I would also urge anyone who may be unsure about coming forward to please consider passing information completely anonymously to Crimestoppers."
