Groundwork staff donate to Springhill Hospice

Date published: 02 March 2009

Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale were fundraising for local charity Springhill Hospice throughout last year and last week they presented a cheque to the Hospice for £1,084.48.

In 2008 Groundwork staff formed a Charities & Social Committee and decided to support one local charity from each of the boroughs in which Groundwork operates. The charity chosen for Rochdale was Springhill Hospice and numerous events took place to raise funds for the charity.

Dean Connaughton, Community Fundraiser at Springhill Hospice, said: “I would like to thank all that got involved during the last year and I look forward to working with everyone again in the future. They all deserve a lot of credit for the money they have raised towards our Hospice and for all that helped or organised an event a sincere thank-you from everyone involved within Springhill Hospice.”

Fundraising events included Bake Sales, Breakfast Mornings, Pool Tournaments, Christmas Craft Fairs and even a Groundwork Weakest Link Christmas Special. Groundwork staff also donated a Christmas hamper filled with lots of delicious goodies for Springhill Hospice to Raffle off over the holiday period.

In addition to all of this fundraising a group of seven ladies from Groundwork also took part in Springhill’s annual Midnight Walk.

Victoria Martin, Accounts Assistant at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “I have really enjoyed helping organise these events and taking part in all of them. Raising money for such a worthy local charity feels fantastic and the support from all staff has been incredible.”
