Date published: 27 February 2009
A soldier from Milnrow was caught drink driving in West Reading on Valentine's Day (Saturday 14 February).
Mark Brown, 20, from Cross Gates Road, who is serving with the Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers, was found driving his Volkswagen Golf while under the influence of alcohol at around 2.30am.
Police flagged him down after he ignored a no entry sign on a West Reading high street. He was found to be 19 microgrammes of alcohol over the limit, which is 35mg.
Brown pleaded guilty to the offence this week and was fined £250, ordered to pay £60 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge. He has been banned from driving for 12 months, which will be reduced to nine if he completes a course.
