Workers' holidays increase
Date published: 27 February 2009
Holiday entitlement will go up from the start of April to 5.6 weeks - 28 days for employees working a five day week, including public and bank holidays.
Since 1 October 2007 all workers have had a statutory right to at least 4.8 weeks paid annual leave; that's 24 days paid holiday for employees working a five-day a week.
The entitlement for part-time employees is calculated on a pro-rata basis.
The Government's Business Link has developed a guide with BERR (Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform) that shows businesses how to calculate employees’ holiday entitlement and pay. It also explains notice requirements and how employers may impose restrictions on when workers can take their holiday.

Acas has also published guidance on employee holidays and holiday pay, this is available at www.acas.org.uk
