Meet your local bobbies while you shop

Date published: 26 February 2009

Residents in Middleton are invited to meet their local Neighbourhood Policing Team while they shop this weekend.

Middleton Neighbourhood Officers will be at Middleton Shopping Centre from 9.30am onwards on Saturday (28 February) to speak to residents and offer crime prevention and safety advice.

Officers will also give out information about joining the Home Watch scheme and registering mobile phones and valuables on the Immobilise website.

Immobilise.com is a free national database available to the public that the police can access and compare against items that have been found or recovered from suspected criminals.

Almost any item with a serial number recovered by police can be returned to the owner if registered on the database. Users can also add photographs and certificates of ownership to their Immobilise account. Once registered users can update their account with details of new possessions and take off items they no longer own.

Neighbourhood Inspector, Gary Hall said: “Neighbourhood Policing is a dedicated service which puts our officers at the heart of the communities it serves. It gives officers the chance to respond to concerns from a local level and improve the quality of life for residents here in the town.

“Sessions like this are a great chance for members of the community to meet their local Neighbourhood Officers and to register their valuables on the Immobilise website.”
