Traffic police across Greater Manchester are taking part in a day of action tomorrow (Friday 27 February) to clamp down on illegal drivers in the county.
Police will be using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) equipment to identify vehicles reported as stolen and those being driven by uninsured drivers. Vehicle examiners will be on hand to check those suspected of being cloned while a sniffer dog will be used to check vehicles for drugs.
The police’s new hand-held fingerprinting units will be used to check the prints of those stopped during the day.
Chief Inspector Alec McMurchy said: “All units from GMP’s Traffic Network Section will be working together on this operation to make the roads safer for law abiding people who use them. Our aim is to get uninsured, cloned, stolen or just downright dangerous vehicles off the road and disrupt those who are using the roads in the area for criminal purposes.”
