Rebecca Castrey and Jack Thorneycroft are running to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Charity
A charitable Rochdale couple are getting their running shoes on to raise money for charity.
Jack Thorneycroft and Rebecca Castrey, from Rochdale, are both running for The Prostate Cancer Charity, in honour of late family members who fell victim to the disease.
The pair will be joining thousands of others for the 10k race, which will commence on 17 May in Manchester city centre.
Set up in 1996, The Prostate Cancer Charity have managed to raise over £7 million in research for prostate cancer, and have made significant steps in helping it become better known.
They also provide support and information for men who have prostate cancer, and also for their families. However, 70% of adults in the UK do not know what prostate cancer is, or even what the prostate is.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer found in men in the UK. Around 35,000 men are diagnosed every year with prostate cancer in the UK alone, and sadly this means that nearly 10,000 men die from it yearly. More shocking than that, it works out as one man dieing from prostate cancer every hour.
The prostate is a gland that only men have, which produces some of the fluid for semen. Prostate cancer is when this gland starts to grow in an uncontrolled way.
Also, March is the Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which will hopefully mean that more people will become aware of what prostate cancer is, and what the dangers of it are.
