Council tax increase lowest for over a decade

Council tax increase: Budget Council meeting will take place this Wednesday
Council tax in Rochdale is set to increase by 3.7% - which is the lowest increase for over a decade.
This is a smaller increase than last year 3.8%, and Rochdale Borough Council predicts this increase could be 3.6% by 2010/11.
A budget council meeting is to take this Wednesday (25 February) at 6.15pm, when details of the forthcoming budget strategies will be unveiled.
Plans were previously made to axe £400,000 from the township devolved funding for Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton and Pennines, but objections lead to a u-turn by finance portfolio holder Councillor Greg Couzens and the plan was abandoned.
