A chance for women to feel fine online

Date published: 23 February 2009

Balderstone ICT Learning Centre is hosting a Feeling fine online Open Day this Wednesday, which aims to get more local women to use the internet.

73% of women in the North West say with the right support they would feel more confident using the internet, and think it might help them keep New Year’s resolutions like saving money or contacting friends and family.

The Open Day aims to provide women with the tools and training they need in order to achieve what they want – from keeping in touch with kids or grandkids, to online bargain hunting or banking.

Almost half of women in the North West (49%) believe the internet will help them beat the credit crunch by saving or making them money in 2009. Over a third (40%) say they want to make extra money on the web in 2009, using online auction sites such as eBay. More than a quarter (28%) say they want to use online websites and tools to help them budget better – using online comparison sites to work out the best deals on food shopping, insurance and mortgages.

Majed Iqbal, Centre Manager of Balderstone ICT learning Centre, said: “Feeling fine online is an opportunity to try a new experience – and feel confident doing it!. Even if you decide it’s not for you, you’ve got nothing to lose, and potentially lots to gain. Why not call us and make dipping your toes into online waters a belated New Year’s resolution?”

The Feeling Fine Online day is on Wednesday (25 February) between 2pm and 7pm.

Despite the campaign primarily trying to attract and make women inclusive, men are also welcome to come in and browse around and register for a course.
