Promoting neighbourhood policing in Rochdale
Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale division is promoting its five Neighbourhood Policing Teams who work across the borough.
Rochdale North and South, the Pennine’s, Heywood and Middleton teams will each be holding activities during the Force’s two-week awareness campaign, which runs from today (Monday 23 February) to 6 March, to promote Neighbourhood Policing.
Activities taking place over the two weeks include safe plating days, surgeries, special operations and engagement events to bring communities together.
Rochdale Division’s Chief Superintendent, John O’Hare, said: "Greater Manchester Police values and is committed to Neighbourhood Policing and through work with partner agencies such as the council, local housing associations and community groups the force is hoping to improve local neighbourhoods by addressing issues that matter to you.
“Here at Rochdale we are aware that each one of our areas are unique, which is what makes sense about Neighbourhood Policing.
“It gives the officers the chance to work with members of the community to address issues affecting them such as local crime and anti-social behaviour.”
Neighbourhood Policing provides a dedicated service that aims to put officers at the heart of communities, responding to local concerns and making neighbourhoods safer places to live.
Part of this involves reassuring communities by carrying out regular high-visibility patrols, but it is also important for people to know who their local officers are and how to contact them.
Each Neighbourhood Policing Team is led by an inspector and up to two sergeants, and consists of constables, school-based police officers and police community support officers (PCSOs).
Teams can be contacted by phone, email or at the nearest station, and cards displaying contact details for each of the five teams are available at police station receptions and a range of community venues.
Surgeries are frequently run across the borough as part of the police’s ongoing commitment to listening and responding to people’s concerns, and officers are developing strong working relationships with local communities by enabling them to get involved in finding solutions to crime and anti-social behaviour.
Through continuing to work closely with the public, Rochdale’s Neighbourhood Policing Teams can help to improve the quality of life for everyone.
Chief Superintendent O’Hare, said: “Putting policing back into the heart of the community makes people feel safer, which is what policing is all about. It is important to have a police presence within communities, not only to disrupt and deter criminal activity but also to offer reassurance and protection to residents.”
