Manhole cover explodes in Littleborough town centre
Date published: 17 February 2009
Fortunately no-one was injured when an electrical fault caused two manhole covers to explode in Watling Street on Monday morning.
The road was temporarily cordoned off while fire crews attended the incident and United Utilities are currently investigating.
The blast was not disimilar to last year's explosion in Rochdale town centre when the main shopping street was evacuated after a main electricity cable exploded. Police, fire and ambulance crews swarmed the scene and three people, two women and a young child, received minor injuries and were taken to hospital.
