Crackdown on anti-social behaviour in All Saints Terrace

Date published: 12 February 2009

Rochdale Council and local police hope that increased patrols, improved street lighting, installation of CCTV and a barrier to stop vehicle access at night will reduce anti-social behaviour on All Saints Terrace, off Red Lane.

Residents have voiced their concerns and council services and the police say they will work together to crackdown the problems and improve security measures in the area so that residents feel more secure and safe in their homes.

MP Paul Rowen opened a meeting with the concerned parties, saying: "We need to ensure the problems that residents are experiencing are tackled quickly, so they no longer have to continue living frightened in their own homes."

The new security measures will be funded by the Rochdale Township, while environmental improvements, including pruning foliage and tidying up flytipped, will also be carried out by the council.

Police officers have stepped up their patrols in Townhead and Foxholes over recent weeks in a bid to reduce youth nuisance and are confident that the measures will prove successful.

Council youth workers have agreed to focus on youths in the area as an extra precautionary measure.

Councillor Ted Flynn, Cabinet member for Community Safety said: "This was a very proactive meeting, with residents and local authorities working together to agree suitable solutions to the problems experienced in the All Saints Terrace area. I am confident that the planned security actions will be a success in giving these residents a better quality of life. Improving community safety is our priority, we work to protect local people from crime but also to help them feel safer."

PC Lee Stanton, GMP Community Beat Manager for Rochdale North Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "We will continue to work in partnership with the Community Safety Team and local residents to further reduce the level of anti-social behaviour in the area.

"We would encourage residents to report such incidents to us as they happen so that we can act quickly to prevent any problems escalating."

Council services and the police will be called to report back on the steps they have taken in two months time.

MP Paul Rowen said: "I am going to be keeping a close eye on the progress being made by council services and the meeting in two months time will help keep residents informed of their progress also. It is important that on going action is taken to ensure the long-term safety of residents. This meeting was an excellent example of how different council departments can work with the police and local residents to find long-term solutions to resident's problems."
