Samia is back in Rochdale to promote healthy living

Date published: 12 February 2009

Coronation Street star Samia Smith will be back in Rochdale next month.

Just a few weeks after opening the new-look Heywood library, Ms Smith is set to appear at Live Life, the big healthy living exhibition being staged at the Middleton Arena on Monday 2 March.

The 26 year old, who plays Maria in the soap, will be calling in to meet visitors during the event, which is aimed at helping Rochdale to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Rochdale Council has joined up with NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale for the day, to offer a range of free interactive demonstrations, activities and advice. Organisers say they will show how getting fit and healthy can be fun.

Samia Smith is one of Coronation Street's most recognisable faces after playing glamorous hairdresser Maria Connor for nine years in the top ITV soap.

Away from the cameras she is a big fan of yoga, using it to help her relax after gruelling filming schedules and long days. In May she’ll be taking part in the Bupa Great Manchester 10k Run for the first time to raise funds for the Francis House Hospice Appeal.

A range of demonstrations will be on show at Live Life, covering all aspects of healthy living.

Samia is calling in between 6 and 8pm when she’ll be joined by professional coaches from the Manchester United Foundation for a football workshop.

Rachel Snow-Miller from the local NHS said: "It’s going to be a fantastic day in a fabulous new venue. A real opportunity for everyone to see how they can live a healthier lifestyle in a fun and friendly atmosphere. Samia is training for her first 10k run at the moment so she’ll be able to find some ideas at Live Life to keep herself in tip top condition.”

Admission to Live Life is free and complimentary refreshments will be served all day.

Doors open to the public at 11am, closing at 8.00 pm.

As reported previously on Rochdale Online, Samia Smith's co-star Beverley Callard, who plays Liz McDonald, will be there from 12.30 and 3pm.

If you need help getting to Live Life at the Middleton Arena you can book free transport by phoning Rochdale Tourist Information on 01706 924928.
