Fairtrade fun for all

Date published: 11 February 2009

People from across the borough are being encouraged to take part and make a difference during Fairtrade fortnight (23 February- 6 March).

The national campaign, supported by Rochdale Council, aims to challenge people to make small changes to their lives by choosing Fairtrade products, which in turn helps toward a better quality of life for those in the developing world.

Throughout Fairtrade fortnight a series of events will be taking place across the town, which became a ‘Fairtrade borough’ in March 2006.

On Saturday 28 February a ‘Fair for all’ treasure hunt will be taking place at Rochdale Exchange Market where stalls will be selling Fairtrade food and gifts.

A Columbian farmer will be making an appearance at the Pioneers Museum, Toad Lane Rochdale on Monday 23 February 10am-12noon giving everyone an opportunity to learn more about the Fairtrade cause and how our help affects the lives of others.

Tickets are available on 0161 246 2226 or by emailing membership.northwest@co-operative.coop

Several schools in Rochdale will also be learning about Fairtrade products and taking part in projects to support the campaign.

Councillor Irene Davidson, acting leader of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “It’s time to make a difference, jump on board and make it happen. Retailers, community groups and individuals can all make a contribution and get involved. We’re delighted to be once again supporting Fairtrade fortnight across the borough.”
