Two young swans had a frightening ordeal over the weekend, after getting stuck in a frozen pond for almost three days.
Animal rescuers rushed to Syke Pond on Sunday afternoon to find two shivering birds with their wings wedged into the ice – where they had been for approximately 70 hours.
Luckily a passer-by spotted them in distress and called the RSPCA, who managed to cut them out quickly and effectively.
Fire fighters were called out to help set them free, but luckily animal rescuers managed to complete the job.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews were mobilised but we did not take part in freeing the birds as the RSPCA did such a brilliant job before we had arrived.
“They managed to stay alive after being stuck for three days which is fantastic, it cant have been a pleasant experience for them”.
