Businesses urged to help at Deeplish community clean up

Date published: 09 February 2009

Businesses are being urged to support a community clean up with Deeplish Community Primary School this Friday (13 February ) between 1.30pm and 2.30 on Exeter Street.

The clean up is part of the Tidy Business Standards award scheme, a partnership between Rochdale Council and Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale. The initiative hopes to reduce litter and promote the idea that businesses should have a good system in place for waste management. There is an additional focus on showing support to the local community and schools.

Tamsin Morris who has organised the event for Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for local business associates to act as good role models, by working as a team with the younger community with Deeplish Primary School.

"It is important to give pupils a better understanding of how important it is to respect their local area.

"It would be great to see businesses help out with our next community clean up.”

"Tidy Business Standards recognises businesses for their part in trying to regenerate the area in a positive manner. Working towards a cleaner, greener and safer community requires the support of everyone including business, the council and the public. If we all take responsibility together, we can create a win-win situation that is equally beneficial to all. The company wins, the community wins, and the environment wins too."

A businessman who recently took part in a litter pick was Claude Nell, of Claude Nell Hair & Beauty, who said: “The litter pick was easy and did not take long. The pupils who attended put lots of effort into it which was enjoyable to see. I noticed the difference from the litter pick instantly.”
