MP reveals Gordon Brown's email blunder

Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has complained to the Prime Minister after finding his email system is down – and has been for five months.

A constituent contacted the MP after numerous attempts to contact Gordon Brown over an issue related to fuel poverty.

Paul, who is now dealing with the complaint said: “It's ironic that it was around August that Gordon Brown spoke about the need for the Labour Party to actually start listening to the country and the need to reconnect.

“The fact is that he isn't - residents frustrated about the recession or any other issue simply cannot email him. Maybe he is too busy trying to save the world! I have written to Mr Brown asking for an explanation as I was unable to email him!

"The way that MPs receive complaints is changing with technology and I receive hundreds of email enquiries on a weekly basis. If Gordon Brown is really listening, he should sort this out".

When trying to contact the Prime Minister through his expensive website, a message is issued which reads: “We have decided at this time that it is important to take another look at the E-mail Number 10 service to ensure that it meets the same high standards as the other content and communication measures that the website delivers.

“Unfortunately, this means that we will be unable to replace the service as quickly as we had hoped, but we aim to have it up and running as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused”.
