Springhill High School played host to a Sportshall Athletics event for children with moderate learning difficulties from across Greater Manchester last month.

Throughout the day children enjoyed participating in numerous activities based around athletics.

Six schools from Greater Manchester, including Rochdale, joined in the excitement, while pupils from local schools, colleges and the Link4Life volunteers scheme came along to help out during the fun filled day.

The Link4Life staff, including organisers Lindsey Sutch, Athletics Community Development Coach, and Donna Stott, Competitions Manager, said: "It was a fantastic event and a rewarding experience to see so many children enjoying themselves. Team Managers from the other Boroughs thought it was a brilliant and well organised day, and are looking forward to the next one."

Amongst spectators was the Deputy Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Keith Swift, who said: "I was thrilled to be here and hope that this becomes an annual event."

As the morning came to an end the children won awards for taking part, with Oldham scooping both 1st place and the Fair Play Award.
