Star guest to visit Live Life
Date published: 05 February 2009
Coronation Street star Beverley Callard will visit Live Life at the Middleton Arena on 2 March.
Coronation Street favourite Beverley Callard is one of the special guests on the line up for Live Life, the healthy living exhibition being staged at the Middleton Arena on Monday 2 March.
Ms Callard, best known for playing Rovers Landlady Liz McDonald in the ITV soap, will be popping in to meet visitors during the event, aimed at helping Rochdale residents to lead a healthier lifestyle and have fun while they are doing it.
Rochdale Council has teamed up with NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale (HMR) for the day to offer a range of free interactive demonstrations, activities and talks and organisers have promised that there will be something for everyone.
Soap fans will be familiar with Bev, the feisty landlady of the Rovers Return, who provides comic relief as the long suffering mother of Steve McDonald and friend to Deirdre Barlow. Her character has had to endure being a battered wife, a kidnap victim and harassed mother but away from Weatherfield she is a qualified aerobics instructor and has released best selling fitness books and exercise videos.
A range of demonstrations will be on show at Live Life, covering all aspects of healthy living, including physical activity, diabetes, sexual health, healthy eating, nutrition and home safety and there will be taster sessions in stretch and tone and tai chi.
During the evening professional football coaches from the Manchester United Foundation will be appearing.
Visitors will be able to take part in a laughter workshop, a poetry workshop and see a bicycle that makes smoothies.
For children there will be face painting, balloon artists, circus skills, story time and a teddy bears' picnic.
Rachel Snow-Miller from the NHS said: "Whether you’re looking for some imaginative ideas on physical activity, or just want to be a little bit healthier, Live Life will have the answers.
"This is a fantastic fun opportunity for everyone to get involved and learn how to live a healthier lifestyle. I’m delighted Beverley is supporting the event. She’s really keen on health and fitness, and still finds time to teach aerobics. Maybe she’ll be able to pick up some ideas to take back to her regulars in the Rovers!”
Admission to Live Life is free and complimentary refreshments will be served all day.
Doors open to the public at 11.00 am, closing at 8.00 pm, with Beverley Callard popping in for a chat between 12.30pm and 3.00 pm.
