Father honours hospital for support in tragic stillbirth

Date published: 04 February 2009

A father has honoured Rochdale Infirmary for supporting his family through the heartbreaking death of his child.

Mohammed Shafiq rushed his wife into hospital last Wednesday after discovering problems with her pregnancy.

It was tragically discovered that the baby’s heart had stopped beating, and the mother was forced to give birth to her stillborn.

Mr Shafiq spoke to Rochdale Online about his ordeal, and has praised Rochdale Infirmary for supporting him at such a difficult time.

He said: “This is a very hard time for myself and my family but I am comforted in knowing we have such a supportive caring health service in Rochdale.

“I know people disagree with this but they should really know that there are good people who work for the NHS.

“They went out of their way to make the experience as painless as possible for us, and we had first class care throughout.

“Rochdale Infirmary is a credit to our country’s health service”.

Cathy Trinick, head of midwifery services said: "We would like to express our sincere condolences to the family of baby Shafiq.

“The death of a baby is always very sad for both the parents and their family, so I'd like to thank Mr Shafiq for taking the time to praise the Infirmary's staff at this very difficult time for them”.
