Man viciously attacked in Middleton robbery

Date published: 03 February 2009

A 33-year-old man has been left with a broken jaw following a terrifying robbery at his home in the early hours of Saturday morning (31 January).

Between 12.30am and 1.10am a robber smashed windows at both the front and back of the house on Higher Wood Street before bursting into the property and attacking the victim while the rest of his family were asleep upstairs.

The victim was left with a broken jaw and fractured eye socket and the offender made off with a television set and other items of property.

The offender is described as being white, 6ft tall, with broad shoulders and he was wearing a hood with a scarf over his face.

Detective Constable Janice Cruttwell, of Rochdale CID, said: "This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for this man. He remembers little of the attack, but cannot understand why he may have been targeted in this way.

"I'm appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident to call us. All calls will be treated with discretion."

Anyone with any information should call Rochdale CID on 0161 856 8443 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
