Three schools closed
Date published: 03 February 2009
Three schools in the Rochdale borough are closed today (Tuesday 3 February) because of the snow, while the A58 over Blackstone Edge and Huddersfield Road between Newhey and Shaw are closed and bin wagons are having difficulty getting up some streets.
After more snow overnight and treacherous conditions on some roads, All Souls Primary School in Heywood, St Thomas' Primary School in Newhey and Sunny Brow Nursery in Middleton are all closed.
The council and the affected schools have apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Meanwhile the A58 over Blackstone Edge and Huddersfield Road from Newhey to Shaw have been shut for safety reasons due to snow drifts last night.
Greater Manchester Police has been informed and the Council is currently attempting to reopen these routes and will provide updates in due course.
The Council has confirmed that recycling and waste collections are taking place today but collection teams are making judgements as to whether it is safe to drive refuse vehicles down various streets whilst on route. Households affected will be given an alternative collection date if this is the case.
