More schools face closure as snow continues
Date published: 02 February 2009
Persistent snowfalls are likely to cause more schools to close in the coming days.
Today (Monday 2 February) Matthew Moss closed down for the day, followed by St Patrick's RC School on Foxholes Lane at 2.00pm.
Weather forecasts indicate there will be more chaos tomorrow as the unusually deep snow which has covered the South East is expected to head northwards, resulting in even more extreme travel conditions.
Rochdale Online will report on additional school closures tomorrow morning (Tuesday 3 February).
A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “We are monitoring the situation very closely and expect our schools to be doing the same.
“Over 95% of schools in the borough are open as usual today and we are expecting the snow showers to get lighter as the day progresses.
“The decision for closure rests with the individual school, and we are not planning to issue any guidance at this stage. The safety of pupils and staff is our main concern in these circumstances, followed by the continuity of education”.
