Update: More schools close after heavy snowfalls

Matthew Moss High School was the only school in the borough of Rochdale to have closed due to heavy snowfalls. St Patrick's RC Primary School, Foxholes Road, will close at 2.00pm today.
Rochdale Borough Council confirmed every other school has opened as usual, but has warned that with more extreme weather ahead, more pupils and teachers could be spending part of the week at home.
A Council spokesperson said: “This could change as the week goes on, as there is due to be more snow, but we will keep you updated”.
Sue Brown, Head of Schools at Rochdale Council, said: “We are monitoring the situation very closely and expect our schools to be doing the same. Over 95% of schools in the borough are open as usual today and we are expecting the snow showers to get lighter as the day progresses. The decision for closure rests with the individual school, and we are not planning to issue any guidance at this stage. The safety of pupils and staff is our main concern in these circumstances, followed by the continuity of education.”
