Drink causes teenagers to take sex too far
Date published: 26 January 2009
One in five girls and one in ten boys have gone further than they wanted to sexually because they were drunk according to a survey of 14 and 15-year olds in Rochdale.
The survey was part of a government report on teenage pregnancy, which has increased recently following a number of years of decline.
Research has also shown a high rate of under-age drinking, with one in five 14-year olds drinking alcohol at least once a week, and one in ten 15 and 16-year olds getting drunk at least six times a month.
Reports indicate that young people are twice as likely to have unprotected sex when they are drunk, with another survey of 15 and 16-year olds showing that 9% of boys and 12% of girls had had unprotected sex after drinking.
The figures were published in the Telegraph on Saturday.
