UNISON and council in 'urgent' pay and grading meeting
Date published: 23 January 2009

This couple, who are both employed by the Council, expect to lose £9000 between them, while the female employee has not yet been informed of the result of her pay and grading review.
UNISON has called for an “urgent” meeting with the chief executive of Rochdale Borough Council after mass pay cuts devastated hundreds of workers.
The pay and grading review which has seen some people’s salaries slashed by up to £11,000 is leaving many council worked panicking about their finances, as well as their future roles within the council.
We have requested an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive, Roger Ellis, this meeting will take place for today, Friday 23rd January 2009.
A letter setting out a request for a further right of appeal, with the right to representation has been forwarded to Stephen Harper and the Single Status Committee, and UNISON’s letter has been acknowledged.
The UNISON Branch Secretary attended the Single Status Committee on the 8th January 2009 to speak to the Elected Members and expressed to them how disgusted the majority.
In December 2008, around 30 aggrieved council employees gathered outside the Town Hall in protest of the cuts.
