NHS Dental services on the up

Date published: 22 January 2009

NHS Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale plan bring up to eight new dentists to the borough as part of a strategy to improve local NHS dental services.

Two of the new dentists will be moving into the newly opened health centre, Nye Bevan House, on Maclure Road and the Trust is also developing more dental services for children, providing a ‘Dental Bureau’ service with a free phone number to call for dental appointments, home visits for older patients unable to travel and plans to improve out of hours dental care.

There are still a number of ways patients can access NHS dental treatment at the moment.

There are some places available with NHS dentists in the borough and the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) can assist with any enquiries on 0800 121 4430.

The Dental Access Centre in Rochdale provides emergency dental treatment to patients who are in acute pain. Patients have to make an appointment by telephoning the centre on 01706 708053

For emergency treatment after 6pm and at the weekend, patients should contact the local out of hours service on 0845 602 0704. You will be assessed over the phone, prioritised according to clinical need and offered an appointment if necessary at a specific time and location.
