MPs to vote on secrecy of expenses
Date published: 21 January 2009
MPS will vote this week on a potential rule change which will allow them to cover up their expense claims.
New rules will exempt MPs from Freedom of Information laws and keep their expense details secret.
Rochdale MP Paul Rowen is set to vote against the Government plans. He said: "This move puts the whole ethos of freedom of information at risk.
"At the end of the day the money that MPs get to do their jobs should be open to public scrutiny just like all the public sector. It shouldn’t be one rule for MPs and another for everybody else!”
