Police on the move with mobile station
Police in Rochdale are getting out to residents in a refurbished mobile police station.
The mobile station will be used by officers and PCSOs from the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team to provide crime prevention advice to residents.
The van is a mobile base from which officers can offer crime prevention advice as well as a police surgery where residents can come and raise concerns.
Upcoming Mobile Surgeries will be held at:
Milnrow Precinct – January 24
Kingsway Retail Park – January 30
Albert Royd Street, near the Co-op – February 7
The mobile station, which has been liveried up with display boards and stands, has already been used in burglary hot spot areas to provide public reassurance and support for leaflet drops. It will also be used in areas such as shopping centres, supermarkets and schools where there are likely to be larger numbers of people.
Inspector Lin Houldershaw for the Pennine Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We want our mobile station to be a one-stop-shop for residents and members of the public to come to when they have concerns or what to raise any issues regarding grievances they may have.
“It is hoped that the station will also be a place where we will be able to distribute and offer crime prevention advice. The beauty of this is that we are able to move to hot spot areas quickly and provide a high-profile police presence.”
Insp Houldershaw added: “We have previously run around 10 monthly surgeries across the area. These were based local landmarks such as tenant and resident associations, housing offices and libraries.
“This has since been amended to mobile stations so that there is greater exposure to the public in all areas of the Pennines.”
