GP extended hours are worst in Greater Manchester

Figures published yesterday by the Department of Health revealed that Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale PCT has the worst record in Greater Manchester for GPs Surgeries offering extended hours and the third worst in the North West.
Although the local PCT has managed an increase in the number of its 35 surgeries that offer extended hours to 13, that still only represents 37% of the total and falls well short of the national average now achieved of 69%.
Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale PCT’s GP practices come at number 43 of the 46 in the North West for the percentage of GPs' surgeries offiering extended hours, while nationally they rank at 149th out of 152 with only Shropshire, Cumbria and Western Cheshire having worse records.
Oldham PCT returns the best percentage in both Greater Manchester and the North West with 43 of its 46 Surgeries offering extended hours, a rating of 93%.
