How have shops changed over the last 150 years and what did the high street shop window of the past look like? What would you buy at the post office and what would the local hardware shop sell in the 1930s? you can find the answer to these questions and many other retail-related questions at Touchstones' latest exhibition.
The 'Shop' collection explores the many aspects of shops and shopping over the last 150 years within Rochdale.
The exhibition takes a fresh look at the high street from 1900 to 1950 and reproduces a selection of the shops you would have found. From the pawn-shop to the post office, the shop windows reflect the social history of the time, offering all visitors an insight into the past.
Museum Officer, David Pugh Said: "We have a good selection of unique and fascinating objects in the museum collections relating to local shops of the past and this exhibition gave us the opportunity to put many of them on display."
The exhibition runs until September in the heritage gallery and includes creative, hands on, family friendly activities.
