‘Pinpoint’ the success story

Date published: 14 January 2009

The Adeleke family are the first people to be rehoused thanks to the new subregional choice based lettings scheme, Pinpoint. Choice-Based lettings schemes operate in the same way as the Rochdale HomeChoice system, where applicants can bid on homes they want rather than the old system years ago of being allocated a specific property.

Pinpoint is a new housing scheme that allows people from around Greater Manchester to have an extra choice about where they want to live without the need to register with each local authority or housing association.

The scheme started in July and at the moment there are six local authorities and their arms length management organisations (ALMOs), including
RBH, and fifteen housing associations actively advertising their properties on the Pinpoint website (with more coming online soon). Around forty properties are advertised as part of the scheme each week.

Mrs Adeleke, along with her husband and newborn son, received the keys to her new house only two weeks after placing her bid. She and her husband chose the house carefully after researching the area to find out if it was a suitable place to live for the family to live.

“We couldn’t believe it when two days later we received a phone call from the Great Places housing officer in Manchester saying we were short-listed and offered the property.” said Mrs Adeleke. “We lived in a one bedroom flat and since our baby arrived six weeks ago we were getting desperate for more space. To be offered this two-bedroomed house with a lovely garden and lots of space was like a pot of gold.”

The Pinpoint Team added: “As a new service it is always great to hear stories like Yejide’s. We wish them well in their new home and hope that this success story is the first of many such across Greater Manchester. Pinpoint gives people that additional choice for rehousing”.

Anyone planning to move within Greater Manchester can search and view properties without registering at:

www.pinpoint.org.uk

To bid on properties you will need to log in and so will need to be registered with the system.

Information leaflets about Pinpoint are available from housing offices.
