Date published: 13 January 2009

Armed robbers tied up a father and slashed his son with a sword before stealing £2,000 cash.

The terrifying ordeal began when two men, who were also armed with a claw hammer, entered the man’s Bury Road house through an unlocked door at about 8.40pm on Monday.

They bound the 58-year-old father with tape and attacked his 24-year-old son before making off with the cash, mobile phones and a large amount of cigarettes.

The son suffered a number of cuts to the head and was later treated at Rochdale Infirmary.

One of the robbers is described as white, in his mid to late 20s, about 5ft 10ins, of slim build, wearing dark clothing and a hooded jacket. The other suspect is described as white, in his late 20s, about 5ft 9ins, medium build, with short black hair with a scarf covering his face.
